Dusty plays a vital role in ensuring the equine team at Success Ranch is healthy, well cared for, and ready to support therapeutic work. He brings a lifetime of horsemanship and cowboying, offering equine knowledge and practical experience beyond measure. Since joining the ranch in 2022, Dusty has worked alongside students of all backgrounds and diversities, providing consistency, structure, and hands-on learning within the arena.
A core part of Dusty’s role includes maintaining the horses’ hoof health, spending many hours trimming and caring for their feet to support the well-being of the herd. Beyond equine care, he serves as a mentor and teacher, encouraging clients to explore different aspects of the equine world. He often introduces students to the importance of hoof care and farrier work, demonstrating that honest work—while sometimes hard—is meaningful and worthwhile.
Dusty is known for his patience, understanding, and ability to connect with youth in a non-judgemental manner. His straightforward, no-nonsense approach and genuine leadership style foster confidence, skill development, and personal growth. Students naturally gravitate toward Dusty for his authenticity and humour, affectionately giving him nicknames such as “Shrek” or “Rip,” shared with laughter and enthusiasm. Dusty’s presence brings stability, life skills, and a strong work ethic to the Success Ranch community.
Tanya brings energy, encouragement, and genuine care to the Success Ranch team. She is known for celebrating student successes with enthusiasm, reinforcing that even small achievements matter. Her kind, empathetic presence often provides grounding support, particularly for young women participating in the programs.
A strong believer in the energy and connection horses bring into our lives, Tanya owns horses of her own and spends quiet time with them reflecting and refocusing. She is well versed in equine mannerisms and understands how horses naturally encourage healthy boundaries while also offering comfort when it is needed most.
Tanya models self-respect and the importance of prioritising personal space, teaching students that healthy boundaries are a strength. She encourages growth while offering steady guidance to those who feel shy or uncertain. Outside of Success Ranch, Tanya is proud to be a mother, a school bus driver, and a business owner alongside her partner, where they operate a small butcher shop.
Fred is the steady, guiding voice within the Success Ranch programs. With decades of experience in human relations, leadership, and mentoring, he brings structure, wisdom, and a strong sense of trust and respect to every session. When Fred speaks, students listen—his calm authority and grounded presence set the tone for safety, accountability, and growth.
Fred has a unique ability to encourage students to step beyond their comfort zones, try new experiences, and work collaboratively as a team. He supports young people in finding and using their voice, creating space for honest communication and self-advocacy. Drawing from a lifetime shaped by family, livestock, travel, and teaching, Fred shares stories and perspectives that help students reflect on their experiences and consider future possibilities.
Within the team, Fred is a steady anchor. He listens with patience and understanding, offering perspective that reminds others that even the toughest days often carry important lessons. He has a genuine way of bringing closure to each session—acknowledging challenges while reinforcing effort, growth, and positive direction. Students often refer to him as “Mr. Fred” as a sign of respect, reflecting the lasting impact of his leadership and presence.
Kris joined Success Ranch in 2023 as a Mental Health Practicum Student, bringing a gentle demeanour, practical wisdom, cultural teachings, and steady support to the programs. He was often found alongside clients, offering encouragement and motivation at moments when it was needed most. Kris brought a wealth of life experience and a strong passion for supporting youth in embracing their identity and sense of self.
While no longer actively working with Success Ranch, Kris remains a valued connection and is always a phone call away. His fresh ideas, thoughtful perspectives, and continued encouragement are still appreciated and welcomed by the team.
